The goal of vision rehabilitation services is to enable a visually impaired consumer to live independently and safely in their own home. All services are provided in the community and are specific to the needs of each individual. AVI’s team of professionals will help the consumer and their family learn the techniques they need to remain active in their communities. All services are provided by certified vision rehabilitation therapists, certified orientation and mobility instructors and licensed social workers.
Goals of AVI Direct Services to Consumers include the following:
- Maintain a clean and healthy home environment
- Plan and prepare meals
- Care for personal hygiene
- Attend to personal health care needs
- Use communication skills, aids and devices
- Manage environment
- Use safe travel techniques and protective measures in outdoor travel
- Travel to stores, shops, schools, business establishments, and places of employment
- Identify and access appropriate community resources
- Return to or continue employment
- Attend programs in the community and participate in community volunteer activities when appropriate
